Proton Experimental brings fixes for REDLauncher, HELLDIVERS 2, Atelier Yumia, KILLER INN and more

Valve released a fresh update to Proton Experimental for March 13th that bring numerous fixes to various games – here’s all the details you need to know.

What is Proton Experimental? It’s like a staging ground for faster updates to their Windows -> Linux compatibility layer for gaming. There’s a bit less testing, and sometimes there’s breakages. But eventually after a while all the updates get rolled out to a numbered Proton version like the latest stable version being Proton 10.0-4. See more about all the Proton versions in the GamingOnLinux guide.

For the update to Proton Experimental from March 13th all the changes are:

  • Disabled Xalia for Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII Remastered as the launcher support controllers natively.
  • Fixed graphical gliches in Duck Game that happen with newer Wine Mono versions.
  • Fixed REDLauncher (e.g. as seen with Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3) taking a long time to exit.
  • Fixed a crash in HELLDIVERS 2 happening in high enemy-count missions.
  • Fixed Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & The Envisioned Land crashing when playing videos in the tutorials.
  • Fixed random hangs in Killer Inn.
  • Fixed Killer Inn not launching on Steam Decks and other machines with /tmp sizes lower than 10GB.
  • Fixed Killer Inn not being able to connect to Square Enix account.
  • Fixed experimental-10 Regressions:

    • Fixed DLSS support in Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection.
