PlayStation Appears To Be Removing Region Restrictions For Its Games On PC

PlayStation porting its first-party, console-exclusive games to PC should have always been a full slam-dunk for the company, as everyone (save for some console warriors, probably) can get behind more people being able to play good games where they want to play them.

But the company’s new multi-platform approach has been plagued by PlayStation seemingly shooting itself in the foot, by trying to force players to link their Steam accounts with a PlayStation Network account, and blocking its games, even the ones it only published, like Stellar Blade, from being sold in the 100+ countries where PSN is not available.

It started being a major issue with Helldivers 2, and has since been a talking point with every port of a PlayStation game to PC. However, as spotted by Wario64, it looks like PlayStation is starting to see the light. Region restrictions for God of War Ragnarok, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and Helldivers 2, have all been removed.

Hopefully, this is a sign that we won’t have to have the conversation around region locking when it comes to PlayStation games on PC again. The recently released Days Gone Remastered didn’t launch with region locks, and now that we’re seeing them removed from older releases, this saga seems to finally be over.

Which is great for all involved. It never made sense in the first place that PlayStation would bring its games to Steam, with the intention of getting players who may not have access to a PlayStation or choose not to play on a console for one reason or another, only to block those players specifically in over 100 regions around the world, from playing their games.
