Nintendo Switch 2 Star Wars Outlaws Early Footage Analysis Highlights Need For Ray Reconstruction

Star Wars Outlaws on Nintendo Switch 2 is one of the few launch window games to support ray tracing, but an analysis of the early footage shared online yesterday highlights how much Ray Reconstruction is needed in this particular game.

Following the release of the aforementioned new footage and of a comparison video putting the Nintendo Switch 2 version running side by side with the PlayStation 5 version, SuperMetalDave64 shared a quick analysis of the footage, highlighting how the new version of the open-world game developed by Ubisoft Massive runs with ray tracing features which don’t really look great due to visible artifacts caused by low resolution. As such, Ray Reconstruction, which the system should support even though we haven’t seen it in action, would be very much needed to deliver better ray tracing quality.

Star Wars Outlaws is only one of the few third-party ports hitting the Nintendo Switch 2 in its launch window, and although it is far from being the best, it seems like it will, at the very least, deliver a playable experience. Though it is too early to say, Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition doesn’t seem will be able to deliver the solid 30 FPS gameplay the Ubisoft Massive-developed game seems it will, as the build available during Gamescom 2025 suffered from some evident performance issues, issues that are likely caused by CPU limitations and the challenges of porting a game engine not known for great performance to a new platform.
