We might finally have a solid clue of who’s working on the long-rumored Fallout: New Vegas remaster: it’s Iron Galaxy, which has dropped a pretty heavy-handed tease on LinkedIn: a “Please Stand By” picture from a Fallout game with the background of a bright desert environment and the following accompanying statement:

Today’s our February company meeting. It’s time to catch up with what the company’s been up to and what’s coming up next for IG.

The Chicago-based game developer, which is very fond of its independence, has released a few original titles in the past, including Wreckateer, Divekick, Extinction, and Rumbleverse. However, it’s mostly known for its work on porting, co-development, and remakes.

That said, it’s a bit of a hit-and-miss track record. We’ve got great examples of remakes and ports, like the recent Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 release, 2023’s Metroid Prime Remastered, and their solid work on bringing The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim to Nintendo Switch and The Elder Scrolls Online to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

On the other hand, there are at least two major PC disasters that bear Iron Galaxy’s mark: Batman: Arkham Knight and The Last of Us Part I. The former was so broken that publisher Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment had to suspend PC sales for a while until the main game developer, Rocksteady, could fix it through patches. The port of Naughty Dog’s masterpiece was also troubled by various bugs, memory leaks, and stutters, among other issues.

Both ports were eventually improved and now enjoy positive reviews on Steam, but their existence does raise a yellow flag for the Fallout: New Vegas remaster. That said, Bethesda probably chose them because Iron Galaxy’s work on their games was well-received overall.

We’ve known of a Fallout 3 remaster for a long time (originally thanks to Microsoft “leaking” Bethesda’s internal schedule during the FTC proceedings to finalize the acquisition of Activision Blizzard), but recently, we started hearing from WindowsCentral that Fallout: New Vegas should also be in the works. Bethesda’s Todd Howard did say the studio is working on “a number of Fallout projects“, after all. New Vegas is the most critically acclaimed installment and was also recently featured in the second season of the Amazon Prime Video show, so it’s an obvious candidate for a remaster.
