Following Naughty Dog‘s update shared by President Neil Druckmann on The Last of Us Day 2026, rumors that the studio is already working on a new Uncharted game are intensifying.

Druckmann did not mention anything about Uncharted, but he did say the two upcoming The Last of Us projects are in the very early stages of development, and we’ve known that a team led by Shaun Escayg has been making a game unrelated to Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet for some time now.

Everyone immediately thought of a new Uncharted, especially after he teased a “research photo” that looked a lot like the kind of locations seen in the franchise; that’s now being backed up by MP1st and VGC. The former says this is a new game, not a remake, and Nathan Drake will be featured in some capacity, despite fans theorizing that the main protagonist in a new installment would likely be his daughter, Cassie Drake. Of course, these two things can be true at the same time: Cassie could lead the new game while Nathan still appears in a supporting role, perhaps not unlike what Victor Sullivan did in the previous games. As for VGC, it did not add any new details beyond corroborating MP1st’s report with its own sources.

It’s been exactly ten years since Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, though Naughty Dog would later release a spin-off, Lost Legacy, in 2017. That game featured Chloe Frazer as the protagonist with Nadine Ross in a supporting capacity. It was later included in 2022’s Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, alongside Uncharted 4.

2022 also saw the theatrical release of the movie adaptation, featuring Tom Holland as a young Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg as Victor Sullivan. The game nearly quadrupled its budget at the box office, with Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group Chairman and CEO Tom Rothman boasting of it as a new hit franchise. Sony later mentioned that a sequel was in development, although that was more than two years ago. Of course, if it’s still happening, they might try to align the release dates of the Uncharted 5 game and movie, if at all possible.
