In a recent interview with VideoGamesChronicle, Sucker Punch revealed that Ghost of Yotei will feature a similar length to its highly successful predecessor. For the record, according to website HowLongToBeat, the main story of Ghost of Tsushima required around 25 hours, but doing side content bumped the length to 46 hours, while a full completionist run could have required as many as 62 hours.
It’s definitely more than enough content to keep players engaged, as long as it is as interesting as in the first game. In fact, according to the developers, it will be more varied. Co-director Jason Connell said:
As the creators of the last game, we played a ton of it. As we went to create a new game, and we decided it was going to be set in Hokkaido, it only seemed fitting to also increase the way that we think about the freedom of the game. What does it feel like to explore? What are your options? How do we feed you your next objective? To us, it really felt like an evolutionary step for us to be able to think about what freedom means to the player and to allow some new ways in which you might uncover something that’s interesting for you.
The other game director, Nate Fox, added:
The thing that Jason and I love the most is that moment when you’re on your horse and you’re looking at this big, beautiful landscape. And maybe the wind is telling you, if you would like to continue the story, go that way. But you see something out of the corner of your eye that catches your curiosity. And you say, you know what? I’m going to go check that out. That moment where the game’s not telling you really about where to go or what to do. It’s you. That’s the most beautiful thing about open-world games.
It is presently unclear whether Ghost of Yotei will also include a multiplayer mode similar to Ghost of Tsushima: Legends. We might not know for sure until later, as Legends debuted a few months after the base game’s launch.
Ghost of Yotei will launch on October 2 for PlayStation 5. Given Sony’s policy, a subsequent PC launch is all but guaranteed, but it might take a year or more to see it on that platform.
