Crimson Desert‘s thin narrative and shallow characters made more than a few fans wonder why Pearl Abyss did not allow players to create their own characters to explore Pywell. While the developer has yet to comment on the matter or provide the option, PC players can now create their own characters thanks to a new mod now available for download from Nexus Mods.
“This mod let’s you build your own character by using the barber,” says the mod’s official description. “This mod allows you to create your own character with extensive customization options. It includes 98 face presets and 159 hairstyles, giving you a wide variety of unique looks. You can customize your character at the barber.”
As the Character Creator mod, which is currently limited to a female option with a male option coming later today, modifies the barber mechanics, it is not compatible with any other mod that does the same, such as Barber Unlocked. In addition, the Kliff Female Voice mod is required for the character creator to work, as is the JSON Mod Manager.
This first release of the Crimson Desert Character Creator mod is only the beginning. Alongside the aforementioned male option, animation replacement is also in the works to make female characters feel like proper replacements for Kliff.
Will The Character Creator Ever Come to Consoles?
While Crimson Desert PC players now have the option to create their own custom characters, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S players are out of luck as they cannot use mods such as those that enhance the game’s visuals with grass shadows and improved ray tracing.
However, developer Pearl Abyss not only has developed a solid character creation system for Black Desert, but it has also been highly responsive to player feedback. As such, there’s still a good chance that, if they receive enough requests, the developer could add an official character creation system down the line.
Even without this feature, however, Crimson Desert is an open-world game worth experiencing, thanks to the massive amount of content and one of the best combat systems seen in similar games.
