CD Projekt Red Drops First Lighting Adjustments For The Witcher 3 Remastered, While a New Mod Makes Settings Tuning Painless

Published on:

The Witcher 3 Remastered launched earlier this week to introduce improved graphics, new features, such as path tracing support on PC (which requires some optimization to run more smoothly on most systems), and a slew of gameplay changes that made many return to the Continent ahead of the release of the Songs of the Past expansion next year. However, the launch of the new version of the game hasn’t been very smooth, and CD Projekt Red has already dropped the first update to address some issues, while modders are continuing their own work to improve one of the best role-playing games ever released.

Patch 5.00b Addresses Lighting Issues and Parity with PC Version

The 5.00b patch is the first patch released for the new version of the game, and, as it is launching two days after its launch, it’s unsurprisingly a minor one that addresses a small set of issues. These include an NVIDIA DLSS issue for the Xbox Play Anywhere version, and some adjustments for the console versions of the game to ensure parity with the PC release.

The most notable of the changes are lighting adjustments, which are aimed, among other things, at fixing interior lighting that looked too dark in the launch version.

  • Fixed an issue where DLSS was unavailable in the Xbox Play Anywhere version of the game on PC.
  • Made various lighting adjustments, including fixing some interiors that appeared too dark.
  • Made various other adjustments to ensure parity with the PC version.

Other reported issues are also being looked into, CD Projekt Red confirmed.

Besides receiving its first patch, The Witcher 3 Remastered also got an essential mod today. The Real-Time Graphics Menu Preview mod developed by gleb63 “removes the opaque background from the in-game Graphics menu, allowing you to see the game world while adjusting graphics settings.”

Anyone who has played a game on PC can easily understand how such a simple feature is a game-changer, especially for a game like The Witcher 3 Remastered, which is significantly more demanding at this time compared to the vanilla release and the Next-Gen update. With so many graphics settings to tweak, this mod makes it more convenient to strike the best balance between visual quality and performance without having to enter and leave the graphics menu every time.

Funnily enough, as I was tweaking my settings yesterday, I was thinking about how convenient it would be to have a preview of the changes, and, as often happens, it was up to modders to provide something that should have been in the vanilla release.
