Mini Motorways becomes the super-chill city builder it was always meant to be with a new Creative Mode update coming this summer

Zen puzzle game Mini Motorways is becoming the even-more zen town-builder it was always destined to be, in a new Creative Mode update arriving later this summer.

During a trailer revealed as part of FGS Live from Los Angeles, developer Dinosaur Pony Club revealed the new mode. Now, instead of working out how to create the most efficient transit system you can, you’ll simply be able to create the most beautiful (or chaotic) transit system you like.

Traditionally, Mini Motorways tasks you with building a road system that allows cars to get from their homes to their destinations and back as quickly as they can. It makes you roll with the punches as it throws new locations in among the roads you’ve already created, eventually making you build a tight-knit tapestry of streets that would drive even the most seasoned taxi driver wild.

With Creative Mode, those unfortunate surprises will be a thing of the past. According to the trailer, you’ll be able to move and rotate buildings to suit you, or even play a monochrome version of the game in your favorite color, to simplify things even more. It’s a mode that makes what can become a nail-biting puzzle game into something more in the vein of chill builders like Townscaper or Tiny Glade.

Mini Motorways’ Creative Mode will be dropping on August 26, but you can pick the rest of the game up ahead of time on Nintendo Switch, Apple Arcade, or on PC via Steam.
