“Becoming a part of the ecosystem is essential for long-term survival.” That challenge is given to us in the brand new trailer for Blind Descent, revealed in a thrilling new trailer that showcases the setting and gameplay for the upcoming science-fiction survival game.
Shown off at FGS Live From Los Angeles, the trailer depicts an underground rainforest ten miles beneath the surface of Mars itself, with our hero a hapless miner who’s apparently fallen through the crust of the Red Planet and discovered the beautiful (if deadly) environment within.
Gameplay features the classic structures of survival crafting — i.e., hacking down trees with a homemade hatchet — but speaking personally, I get strong overtones of Subnautica as the game threads these understood systems through the filter of strange alien life. I’ve never seen a game where you rappel down a cliff using a flower’s sticky tongue, at least until now.
Speaking of which, there’s plenty of xeno-flora and fauna showcased alongside. From what we’re seen, plenty of it looks happy to kill us (we didn’t mean to drop in, guys), and much of it looks insectile and bug-like in nature… which doesn’t bode well about the giant tunnel made sticky with webbing that we crawl through at one point. Oh god — I just recovered from my arachno-trauma in Grounded, I’m not sure I’m ready for this.
Blind Descent will allow for up to four-player co-op when it releases, and while there’s no official release date yet, the game is planned to launch in Early Access on Steam. You can wishlist the game to get the latest news and updates, or follow the game’s progress on the official X and Discord social media channels!
