A truck transporting Nintendo Switch 2 consoles from Nintendo’s headquarters in Washington to a GameStop in Texas was robbed before the consoles could complete their journey. The perpetrator(s) stole 2,810 consoles, approximately $1.4 million worth of Switch 2 devices.

The theft was reported while the truck was stopped in Bennett, Colorado, where, according to a local report from ABC Denver 7, the driver noticed the semi-truck had been broken into during a pre-drive inspection.

It’s currently unknown when the theft happened on the journey from Washington. The semi-truck had been sitting at a truck stop in Bennett called Love’s Truck Stop when the driver spotted the theft. The driver also claimed not to know what was in the semi, only that it was games or toys.

The investigation into the theft is still ongoing, but for now, somewhere in the US, there are nearly 3,000 Switch 2 consoles floating around that, unless they’re found, Nintendo won’t be adding to their total units sold numbers. In just the first four days after launch, the Nintendo Switch 2 sold 3.5 million units globally, with 1.1 million units being sold in the United States alone in the console’s first week on the market. The console is flying off the shelves, selling twice as fast as the original Switch at launch, and in this case, flying out the back of a truck. Even without the nearly 3,000 consoles stolen, the Switch 2 is expected to sell upwards of 16 million units in 2025.

It’s unfortunate for those in Texas who were looking to grab a Switch 2 that they’ll have to wait a little longer for a new batch of consoles to arrive, as long as that next batch isn’t robbed as well.
