There’s good news and bad news for those eagerly anticipating 007 First Light, the James Bond origin story from Hitman developer IO Interactive. If you own a PS5 and were looking forward to playing First Light next month, then you’re in luck because you get the good news. If you were looking to play it on Nintendo Switch 2, then unfortunately, you get the bad news.
Bad news first: the Nintendo Switch 2 version of 007 First Light has been delayed, and won’t arrive until “later this summer.“ IO Interactive made the announcement in a quick post on the game’s X (formerly Twitter) page, and didn’t share any details or insight as to what caused the Switch 2 version to miss its initial release date.
The studio didn’t even call the change a delay. It just said “007 First Light comes to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on May 27, 2026, and Nintendo Switch 2 later this summer,” before adding that it is “looking forward to bringing you the best game experience possible across all platforms.”
Frankly, it feels like we should be well past the point of beating around the bush when a game, or a version of that game, is delayed. Developers, especially big ones like IO Interactive, should just be direct and straightforward in their language, but that’s beside the point.
The studio was able to be direct when all versions of the game were delayed back in December 2025 out of March and into May, so it’s just plain odd to see a difference here. Hopefully, this doesn’t turn into a similar situation with other Switch 2 versions of games, like Elden Ring, which is still at least set to arrive on Switch 2, it’s just taking far longer than anyone expected. The worst case would be a Borderlands 4 situation, where the Switch 2 version is just eventually cancelled entirely. We’ll see how things progress in the coming months.
Now, the good news, which is that PS5 players not only don’t have to worry about a delay for the PS5 version of the game, but they can also play it on day-one with a shiny-new 007 First Light-themed DualSense controller.
Pre-orders for the controller begin on April 17, 2026, and it’ll officially launch alongside the game on May 27. It’ll run you an additional $84.99 USD on top of the price of the game itself, which is also a fully-priced, $69.99 USD title if you’re just getting the standard addition with no bells and whistles.
“With this 007 First Light controller, we saw an opportunity to welcome James Bond back to gaming after more than 13 years in a way that felt instantly iconic. The golden finish pays tribute to the elegance, legacy, and timeless style of the franchise, while the barrel-inspired detailing reflects the themes of the game and how it feels to play it, as well as being a nod to one of pop culture’s most recognizable visual signatures,” said Rasmus Poulsen, franchise art director on 007 First Light at IO Interactive.
“Every element of the DualSense design was crafted as a celebration of Bond’s return, blending legacy and modernity to create a controller that feels unmistakably 007 from the moment you see it.”
